How much will a scrapyard pay me for my car?

TA-RA TERRANO!

KEEN camper John Ascroft was sad to see his Nissan Terrano go today, but vowed to carry on camping!

It's ta-ra for John's Terrano

The 71-year-old grandad of 14 and great grandad of five finally bid farewell to his treasured Nissan Terrano 2.7 series 2 on Friday morning.

It was a 1999 model, which John had owned for 15 years and had driven all over the UK camping with his wife of 53 years, Sandra.

But when the clutch gave out recently and repairs would have been too costly for the pensioner, John decided to do the right thing and contact the Scrappers.

The retired bus driver from Leyland searched on the net and found Britain's best known scrapyard in Bolton - The Scrappers.

When the Scrappers made him an offer he couldn't refuse, trusted collection agent and driver Phil went to pick up John's pride and joy vehicle for free.

"I loved that car and was sad to see it go, but I have to say I'm pleased with what I got for it," John told The Scrappers.

"The clutch went on it and being a pensioner I couldn't afford to have a new one fitted.

"I was unable to drive her anywhere obviously because the clutch had gone, so I went on the internet and found The Scrappers.

"My family were originally from Bolton, and with the Scrappers being in Bolton, I wanted to give a bit of trade back to Bolton!

"I was very sad to see it go. Just hoping I can acquire some more money from somewhere and possibly get another one one day," he added.

Luckily, John won't be without wheels for long, he's been promised new wheels gifted to him from his brother-in -law who recently inherited another vehicle.

It means he and his wife can continue taking their trailer around the UK and keep on camping.

"My brother in law has inherited a two year old Honda," explained John.

"He had a Picasso and he knew I needed some transport and he came down to see me and said, "you can have the Picasso if you want... it'll give me room on my drive for the car I've inherited.

"And he didn't want a penny for it."

To top it all off Mr Ascroft got a handsome payout from The Scrappers and added," I was very happy with the quote.

"If I need The Scrappers again, I will use them. I will certainly have a good look at their website and I'm putting a review up because the collection driver was brilliant.

Mr Ascroft admits he'll miss his Terrano but looks back fondly on the vehicle that clocked up an admirable 103,355 miles.

"She were a brilliant car, she pulled a caravan for about three years. We used to go up Scotland and Wales.

"But we've always been into camping more, me and the wife - since we were about 13 or 14 years old.

"We've been together for 57 years and married for 53.

"And because we are longtime campers we would often jump out of the caravan to help new campers who struggled with putting their tents up.

"So I said to the wife Sandra, we will get rid of the caravan and go back to camping instead.

"We've got a trailer for all the gear and now we have the Picasso we can use it and carry on camping!"

How Do I Scrap My Car?

HOTHEAD 😡

If you tend to experience road rage, then you might want to avoid getting behind the wheel during the next couple of days.

We get in everywhere!

Hot weather has been linked to increasing aggressive behaviour.

With it suddenly going scorchio again and temperatures set to soar into their 30s it's going to be even more difficult to keep your cool - especially behind the wheel.

So if you are a hothead, give someone else the car keys!

Past studies have linked hot weather to aggression, so if you have form for losing it when you drive it might be a good idea to wait until temperatures drop again which in typical British weather style won't be a long wait!

"..uncomfortable temperatures cause increase in aggressive motivation, and under the right conditions, in aggressive behavior," noted lead study author Craig A Anderson in a Temperature & Aggression study conducted back in 2000.

"It is noted that people believe that hot temperatures increase feelings of anger and hostility, decrease alertness and energy, and increase aggression and violence. Cold temperatures exhibit exactly the opposite effects."

It's not just tempers that can suffer during heatwaves, your vehicle will need a little extra TLC too.

"Most people know that extreme cold weather can affect their car, but so can extreme heat," says Scrappers bossman Terry Walker.

"Heat can raise some issues for drivers so save yourself the hassle and be prepared."

Watch that paintwork!
Terry stresses the importance of checking your vehicle's fluids, so check the following:

Antifreeze - if levels are too low they can cause overheating.

Motor oil - if the engine oil is low it stops lubricating the engine components and you may suddenly start hearing all sorts of funny noises.

Transmission fluids - if levels are low it'll cause overheating because there will not be enough fluid to serve all the parts and therefore it will damage the transmission.

Windshield wiper fluid - when it's hot it's dusty, the road kicks up filth and if it hits your windscreen and you can't clean it you won't be able to see to drive which is highly dangerous.

Brake fluid - used to amplify braking function. Again, dangerous if levels are low.

Power-steering fluid - fluid that allows your wheels to turn easily, if your car isn't turning like it should, have the power steering fluid checked.

Get your tyres checked - hot weather can make tyres expand so make sure that they are at their correct pressure. All Tyred Up is The Scrapper's sister company catering for all things tyre related and they offer FREE tyre pressure checks so contact them if you need your wheels sorting.

Make sure your air-con is spot on -  every two years your car should have it's air-con system serviced to refill liquids and ensure everything is working smoothly.

Over time the gas in the air-con system - known as refrigerant gas - dwindles and that can mean it's not working efficiently.

All Tyred Up runs an air-con service to deal with these problems, and have experts on hand to help.

They provide a whole range of air-con inspections, from leak testing to refrigerant checks, plus temperature analysis and full scrutiny of all key air-con components.

Where can I sell my car fast

METAL DOWN EVERYONE ♻︎

As a leading scrap company that's been around for almost three decades we've been on the receiving end of some rather unusual metal objects.
Just this week we've had an air rifle. We're not in the business of buying any type of guns but you do get the odd strange offer.
What a view 😍
It's not just vehicles that come in the yard, onaverage we get about 1000 fridges a year, 400 to 500 barbecue grills, then there's things like chicken wire, copper piping, you name it, we've had it.
Obviously it's the scrap car, scrap van and any scrap vehicle we are mainly after. But we do buy ferrous and non-ferrous metal too!
And when it comes to paying top dough for vehicles, we buy cars that are still running that people want to sell on.
When someone decides they want to sell their car, the first things that goes through their mind are, "how much can I sell my car for".. "what do I need to do to sell my car," "what paperwork do I need to sell my car", "what do I need to do to sell a car privately?" "How do you write a bill of sale for a car UK?" So many questions like these..
Yes, The Scrappers can guide you every step of the way. In fact we are here to take any stress out of selling or scrapping your car away.
Thirty years in the business means we have moved with the times and know the ins and outs of scrapping vehicles and selling them too.
So let us take away any worries you may have and make the process of scrapping or selling a vehicle easy as pie.
One other big, and probably most important question, you will be asking is "where can I sell my car for best price?", another big question is "where can I sell my car fast?" and rightly so.
Who wants to spend weeks on end trying to sell their car? When all you want is the money right there and then. If you're selling a car you can get cash paid for it too - that's because it's a car that's going to be back on the road.
For scrap cars, however, you'll get payment straight into your bank account, as legislation means you can't get cash for end of life vehicles.
But what you do get, every time, is the best payment for your vehicle - runners and non-runners.
And you can find out your vehicle's worth by using our simple vehicle valuation checker on our website. Just click the car 🚘
The Scrappers are also ahead of the game when it comes to used car parts. Quality used car parts. So if you’ve been wondering, “where can i buy car parts for cheap?” or “what is the best website for car parts?” then you need to click the car and let us do the rest!
The Scrappers - all the answers you'll ever need when it comes to selling or scrapping you vehicle.

How do I sell my car myself?

MAY, THE BEST DRIVER WINS!

A 90-year-old grandma who has dealt with family heartbreak after losing two of her three children - has told how a car she treasured for almost 30 years helped keep her going.
Gran-of-three May Rothwell lost her daughter Susan and her son Philip to illness when they were both in their late 30s.
One wonderful lady owner ❤️
Even though her losses happened decades ago she still remembers them like yesterday.
May also lost her husband Richard some years ago but through all the heartache she's endured, this positive lady celebrates the memorable moments she's enjoyed travelling around England and Scotland in her prized Toyota Corolla GLi.
After having the car for a staggering 27 years without any hiccups, May, who is also mother to son Keith and grandma to three grandchildren, finally parted company with her wheels at the weekend.
May's treasured stunning silver saloon
But she vows to look back fondly on the adventures she had along the way.
"It was the best car I've ever had," said May.
"It was absolutely gorgeous. It went on and on and on.
"It's been the best car in the world I think.
"Around the wheel edges it was a bit rusty. But it was still go-about-able."
The '93-plate Toyota took May and her late husband all around the UK. The couple had been cricket fans - proud members of Lancashire Cricket club - and never missed an away game.
They also regularly drove 'old faithful to Christchurch near Bournemouth where they would enjoy a caravan holiday every year.
But on Saturday, it was, sadly, the end of the road. May finally parted ways with her beloved wheels and sold the Corolla - with just 70,000 miles on the clock - to The Scrappers
May, from Astley Bridge, knew it was time to bid farewell to her beloved chariot after her son Keith stepped in.
"Because I'm 90, my son didn't want me driving anymore," she explained.
"I said to him, 'I'm a better driver than you!'
"I've been on an advanced driving course where you have to drive on ice, all sorts."
On to find a new owner ❤️
During much of May's lifetime, the man, traditionally, would have been behind the wheel. But May was the driving force behind the wheel even when her husband was alive.
Plush interior
She explained: "He was with the police and he used to drive up to Scotland and whatever.
"And then suddenly he came to a roundabout and a lady in front of him started to move forwards and suddenly she jammed the brakes on and stopped halfway through. He got out of the car and said 'I'm not driving this any more - you can.'
"And that was it, he refused to drive. I was driving all the time from then and I liked it!"
Now that May's said her final farewell to her Toyota she's taken comfort in the fact that it will be stored and looked after until it meets a new deserved owner.
But she admits, if it wasn't for her caring son stepping in, she'd still be giving it some welly!
"I'm very sorry that I'm not driving that car anymore. I really am.
"But I'm glad someone else will get the opportunity to enjoy it, hopefully as much as I did."

***The Scrappers will buy any type of car, even ones that haven't been as cherished as May's beautiful Toyota. Call them on 01204 388488. Or click the 🚘

What place has the cheapest tyres

TREAD CAREFULLY

It's staggering how many motorists are whizzing here, there and everywhere with bald tyres!
Tyred & Worn

Tyres grip your vehicle to the road, so if there's no track left - what's holding you down -
substandard tyres!!
So when people wonder; "is it ok to drive on bald tyres?" no it's not.
One of the greatest dangers is during wet weather you can aquaplane on the road and lose complete control of your vehicle. That's obviously deadly to yourself, your passengers and anyone else nearby in other cars or pedestrians
So how often should tyres be replaced?
From brand new, then after five years they need to be checked - the tread needs to be deep enough meaning they still have grip.
If you're tyres are 10 years old, then forget about it. Get new tyres. They don't have to be brand new, of course. They can be used tyres that are still in tremendous shape.
All Tyred Up is The Scrappers sister company, specialising in - you've got it -TYRES!
And they stock loads of quality tyres that are in great condition and very cheap.
That's because they will have come from vehicles that are new or they were tyres put onto a vehicle shortly prior to it having to be scrapped or sold for some reason or other.
So those tyres will be in great shape and able to keep another car on the road, safely and for a bargain price.
Alternatively, you may want to buy brand new tyres in Bolton instead of buying part-worn tyres in Bolton. You're probably wondering what is the best budget tyre brand, well the All Tyred Up team can help you on the best budget tyres for your vehicle.
You may also wonder 'how much does it cost to get tyres fitted?'
All Tyred Up do fittings from only £5!!! How crazy cheap is that???
And they offer FREE pressure checks - is this a charity or a business you're probably thinking!!!
Scrappy happy dooooo!
You certainly get the best prices around for tyres and that's not all. They also provide a number of other car maintenance services from battery fittings to FREE exhaust checks plus exhaust  supply and fittings should you need a cheap replacement exhaust in Bolton.

How can I sell my used engine

RUNNING OUT OF VROOM VROOM HERE!

Take a look at this massive pile of engines - there’s no vroom anymore!
Engines are beautiful
They’ve been stripped of parts that can get other engines purring again and what’s left will be recycled.
There are so many engine components  - here's just a few and what they do!

Engine block - The block is the main part, the main body of the engine. Every other part of the engine is bolted on to it. Engines are where the combustion happens.

Pistons - The pistons pump up and pump down while the spark plugs are firing away. All this energy is what gets the tyres spinning via the drive shaft.

Cylinder head - You’ll find the cylinder head attached to the top of the block which ensures there’s no loss of gasses. The cylinder is where the spark plugs, valves and other parts are fitted too.

Crankshaft - This is located near the bottom of the engine block and it’s the part that does the energy converting from the piston engine to rotary.

Camshaft - The camshaft’s role is to open and close the valves harmoniously with the rest of the parts.

Valves - So the valves are present to regulate the flow of air, fuel and exhaust fumes located in the cylinder head. The valves are both intake and exhaust valves.

The oil pan - that’s attached to the bottom of the engine and it stores all the oil which is used for keeping the engine lubricated.

So there you have it, your quick guide to knowing your way around an engine.
If it’s still got you scratching your head, don't worry - the Scrappers team have expert engine gurus to hand who know engines inside out.
